How Is Growing Packaging Industry Fueling Demand for Printing Inks?

The preferences of packaging companies worldwide are inclining toward environment-friendly solutions. UV-cured printing inks, apart from releasing almost no emission, offer energy efficiency and long service life and generate low heat. Therefore, a large number of chemical companies are focused on developing water-based and UV-cured inks, as they are eco-friendly, and innovative printing ink technologies that take a short production time. These initiatives, combined with the growth in the packaging industry, are driving the consumption of printing inks.

The changing lifestyle of consumers, coupled with the rapid GDP increase and growing youth population globally, is propelling the demand for high-quality flexible packaging solutions for an array of products. Moreover, the steady growth in industries such as labeling, advertising, food and beverages, packaging, and publication is propelling the printing inks market to new heights. Among all, the label and packaging industry generates the highest demand for these materials due to its growth in India, China, and the U.S.

In all these industries, printing inks are used on various products, such as newspapers, magazines, cardboard, ceramic tiles, and books. Among the different types of inks used, lithographic inks are expected to be highly demanded in the coming years. It will be because lithographic printing is commonly used in newspapers, magazines, and on other commercial materials. Non-paper surfaces, such as metal cans and wood, can also be printed using lithography, which will escalate the demand for the related inks.

Earlier, North America was the largest consumer of such materials, with the U.S being the more-significant contributor, mainly due to the rising penetration of bio-based products in various industries. Water-based and UV-cured printing inks are safe for the environment; therefore, with the expansion of various sectors in the region where coding and marking are necessities, the demand for these materials will boom. For instance, the U.S. is one of the largest producers of processed food products, which are mandated to be properly labeled.

Hence, the surging usage of printing inks on newspapers, metal cans, and packaging of various products will increase the demand for these materials in the coming years.
